ABOUT GARY HOPTROUGH
"I started racing
motocross bikes at the age of 14 and within 18 months was winning
local schoolboy championships. In 1989 I had my 1st year in the
Adults class - riding a 250cc bike which I stayed with throughout
my racing career, winning Junior and Expert titles in the Eastern
Centre.
1992 was the turning point for me, I started
doing Supercross events in Worcester where I would run with and
beat a lot of riders who were doing Grands Prix. This was the
point at which I was determined I was going to prove myself at
a high level of motocross as well.
By the end of 1995 after 9 years of riding,
including successful results in British Championships, I became
eligible to qualify at 250cc World Championships Grands Prix.
My 1st Grand Prix was at Foxhill in 1996, in
timed training my gear box jammed but as I was so close to qualifying
this made me believe in myself that I could do it.I qualified
in the next Grand Prix which was in San Marino Italy, and continued
to qualify in the next 4 rounds of the World Championships that
year.
In 1997 I continued to ride in World and British
Championships.
During my 12 years of racing I rode for Socal
Kawasaki and was team mate to Paul Cooper. Racing along side Stefan
Everts and Josh Coppins.
In 1998 after qualifying at the first round
of the World Championships in Spain, my circumstances pushed me
away from the sport. Over the next three years I went off to do
other things including my stunt training for TV and Film.
I developed MX Coaching in 2001, my aim was
to establish motocross training to enable all riders to achieve
their full true potential.
By passing on my knowledge and expertise of
12 years racing I have developed a fun and friendly motocross
teaching school that helps riders learn more about their bikes,
ride more safely, and improve their technique which results in
their speed improving."
